After buying a road bike to convert for the track, I knew that race fairings were needed. I’d never purchased any before and I did what most people do, headed straight to eBay.
A few kits were available, including second hand items, but I wanted a new set so everything was a custom fit to the bike. The reviews for A16 were excellent, and all items are made in the UK so after speaking to Paul, I placed an order. I’m glad I did.
This is my experience......
Fit the kit as it arrives out the box.
The important thing to so is to take your time. You need to line everything up and drill the holes in the correct places.
I measured 7 times and drilled once. All the main mounting points are the same as a standard bike but the belly is held with race fasters.
This is the fun bit. Choosing a colour. James suggested a matt black as you can blend it really well if needed. I lightly sanded all the panels and painted the inside black first. I added mesh to some of the vents and the primered everything using Halfords paints. The matt black went on perfectly and looks fantastic.
I added 2 coats of paint and then decided to do a top coat of Halfords matt lacquer.
I should have read the reviews, it was a nightmare, it put a white haze on a panel.
I could have cried, but waited for it to dry and then sanded it off. I then repainted the matt black, binned the lacquer and left it to dry.
It came out far better than I thought possible. I’ve done 5 track days and its still like new. Nothings cracked or weakened, and the panels have been removed at least 25 times. I won’t be trying anywhere else for panels, I’m particular, and I highly recommend giving A16 Road ’N` Race a call.
