The most important message here is this. If you don’t know what you’re doing, DON’T touch them, give the bike to a qualified mechanic, or take it to your local dealer. This guide is currently being put together for you but its only for systems NOT using ABS.
For ABS systems take the bike to your dealer, bleeding an ABS system can need specialised tools when fitting braided hoses and therefore no fluid is in the system. I’ve read a few stories where people get pressure at the lever and think the jobs done, but the ABS pump still has air in it! But, when you need the ABS, the air in the pump part of the system is introduced into the lines and the lever comes back to the bar without the pads moving. I know some Honda dealers quote 4-6 hours for fitting lines and bleeding ABS systems.
We’ll be covering master cylinders, brake fluid, bleeding the brakes, different pads & discs in the next few weeks.
